Buchman also regularly collaborates with his wife -- choreographer Rosa Mercedes -- on productions that integrate movement and dramatic storytelling with exceptional theatrical cohesion. Their highly successful collaborations have included Faust, Carmen, La traviata, Turandot, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Roméo et Juliette, Pagliacci, Rigoletto, La Cenerentola, Il trovatore, Madama Butterfly, Die Zauberflöte, Ainadamar, Cendrillon, Luisa Fernanda, and many others.

Training Opera's Young talent
Originally trained as a singer himself, Buchman won numerous national and international competitions and awards. He was Winner of the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, won First Prize in the National Society of Arts and Letters National Voice Competition, was awarded a Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation, was the recipient of the Evelyn P. Gilbert Award from Florida Grand Opera, and was awarded the Studio Artist of the Year Award from Central City Opera.
Deeply committed to the development of young artists, Buchman serves as Program Director and Stage Director for Frost Opera Theater at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, where his productions have included La Rondine, Ainadamar, The Light in the Piazza, Cendrillon, Mavra, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, The Leopard, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, The Consul, Flight, Le nozze di Figaro, and Così fan tutte. He has directed extensively for conservatories, apprentice programs, and young artist training programs across the United States, helping shape the next generation of operatic performers, including the young artist programs of Seattle Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Tulsa Opera, Chautauqua Opera, and Sarasota Opera, as well as at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the International Vocal Arts Institute in New york, Miami Summer Music festival, Tokyo International Vocal Arts Institute, Brevard Music Festival, New World School of the Arts, Brancaleoni International Music Festival, Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Opera Boot Camp and he has been a regularly invited guest stage director at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia since 2015.
Beyond the Opera Stage
constantly pushing the limits of the performing arts, Buchman's innovative work has taken him beyond the opera stage and has put him at the forefront of a new era in directing. Together with renowned conductor Gerard Schwarz, he created a televised production of Mussorgsky´s Pictures at an Exhibition which aired on over 220 PBS stations nationwide. His artistic endeavors beyond the opera stage have also included serving as Artistic Director for the dynamic multimedia arena event entitled “Live Arts”, involving some 1,200 performers on 4 stages.
